Careful preparation is one of the keys to a successful interview

Double check the location of the interview and time your travel so that you will arrive just a little early.
Research your prospective employer. A company’s own website is the best place to start, and don’t forget to run a search for other information. Use your Bluefin account manager– we know our clients very well.
Review your resume well.
Think about what they may ask you. What are you looking for in a role? Where do you want to be in 5 years? Why do you want this job? You may have to nominate your strengths and weaknesses. Remember that it is okay to admit to weaknesses, though better if you can follow up your answer by indicating how you are working on them.
Do you understand the role that you are being interviewed for? If unsure about any aspect of the position, call your Bluefin account manager.
Practice your interview technique – either by visualising questions and your answers, or borrow a friend to help you role-play an interview.
Dress appropriately for the position and the company. If a suit is normal business attire, then dress accordingly. For more relaxed environments, a suit may well look out of place – if in doubt, call your Bluefin account manager.
Be aware that behavioural, skills or case study based interviewing techniques may be used. (see links above for further information).
During the interview
A firm handshake is always a good start.
Listen to the questions carefully and make sure your answers are relevant. Don’t be afraid to sell yourself – for example if you are asked a question about whether you have a particular technical skill, take the opportunity to explain details of how you used this skill in a particular project.
Be completely honest about your experience and work history.
Don’t make negative comments about past employers.
Remember, an interview is a two way process. Ask questions about the role, the company, the culture, the career potential, and the company’s plans for the future.
Show enthusiasm and if you are keen to proceed, let the interviewer know.
It is always better to let the prospective employer raise the subject of salary.
At the end of the interview thank the interviewer for their time.
After the interview
Call your Bluefin consultant to give them feedback. They will pass this on to the client and return feedback from the client to you.
